About BOAC

Barrington Outdoor Adventure Centre is dedicated to providing wilderness adventures. Our Outdoor Education Programs and Mountain Biking, Canoeing, and Kayaking tours are truly memorable getaways for novices and enthusiasts alike.
BOAC offers canoe and kayak hire, mountain biking, transport to and from the river, catering, and expert knowledge on the environment and history of the Gloucester and Barrington area. We supply the latest, well-maintained, quality equipment, all meals are freshly prepared on site and our experienced guides are enthusiastic about their environment.

BOAC is an accredited Australian Canoeing operator with a faultless safety record. All our guides are first aid qualified; many also hold wilderness first aid certificates.

BOAC is a family business. Started as "Billabong Bush Centre" in 1983 by Matthew Kilby, Barrington Outdoor Adventure Centre was taken over by his brother Brian Kilby in 1995.

Going Green…

Carbon Neutral ProgramsAt BOAC, we have always been passionate about our environment and have tried to minimise our impact on the earth.  Our organization has extensive local knowledge and guides trained in our environmental policy to ensure that you can have an adventure of a lifetime without damaging the gifts that nature has given us.
In growing our business we are aware of our obligations to both our customers and future generations.  We believe that our rivers and forests belong to all and it is our aim to ensure that these beautiful areas remain that way.
We are on the path to becoming a sustainable business with all of our energy being supplied by accredited GreenPower, all wastewater treated on site and local produce (including our own organic gardens) and local materials used where ever possible.  We use biodiesel and have plans to install rainwater tanks and solar panels to meet our hot water needs.

BOAC is situated on a disused gravel quarry site that is being revegetated and returned to productive land

Our Team

Brian
BrianBrian was born and raised in the Barringtons. He loves all sports, including tennis, cricket, rugby, mountain biking and KAYAKING! Above all though, Brian is a people person! He has unique knowledge and appreciation of the local area and is more than happy to share this with all who visit him.

BOAC is Brian’s business, and it is also his lifestyle, hobby and consuming passion. He has taken his family business and shaped it into an innovative and enthusiastic company that offers the best wilderness adventure you’ll find anywhere. His priority is to make sure that you have the time of your life in a safe but challenging environment.

Brian also loves rock climbing, bushwalking, surfing, and sharing stories of his adventures with you.

Naomi
When you call us, Naomi will probably be the person on the other end of the phone. Naomi loves the people aspect of BOAC. By alternating her time between the office and the outdoors, she gets to meet a wonderfully diverse range of people and share the unique BOAC experience with you.

Naomi’s background is in chemical engineering and environmental science. Appropriate seeing as it was a chemical reaction that has kept her at BOAC. Naomi joined a BOAC kayaking tour, fell in love with the Barringtons and couldn’t stay away.

Naomi was always into sport: netball, gymnastics, swimming and water skiing, but she has heartily embraced kayaking and mountain biking. The beauty of these sports, says Naomi, is that they combine her love of nature and meditation with exercise and personal challenge.

Her favourite tour in the Barringtons is kayaking the spectacular gorge on the Cobark to Bindera section of the Barrington River. Why? “Because it is so calm and remote.”

Shane

ShaneLike Brian, Shane was also raised here. He is passionate about the environment, especially the Barrington Tops area, mountain biking and kayaking. He also loves organic gardening, surfing and working as a stonemason.

He has been mountain biking for 12 years, has competed in most disciplines of mountain biking for Great Lakes and Hunter Valley, and worked as a bike mechanic.

Shane is hooked on sharing his passion for this area with others. He loves watching and helping people to progress in skill level and enjoyment and seeing their understanding and appreciation for the natural environment grow as they connect with nature.

Robbie

RobbieRobbie grew up kayaking. He first came to the Barrington River as a member of the Hunter Valley Canoe Club at the age of twelve. He continued to paddle as a member of various team before representing Australia in Down River Racing.

Now Robbie travels Australia and the world raft guiding, creeking and freestyle kayaking but he still comes back to the Barrington for its peace and tranquillity. Robbie loves to teach and share his passion for the river and the environment with others.
